This one-day conference discussed manual materials handling from a variety of perspectives and included:

• An informative keynote address from Dr. Tom Waters, certified professional ergonomist and Senior Safety Engineer at NIOSH. Dr. Waters is internationally renowned for his work on the revised NIOSH lifting equation – the most commonly used tool to measure if workers are exerting too much effort to lift or lower.
• Presentations from an authoritative line-up of experts in the field: a researcher, ergonomic consultant, injured worker, disability management consultant, labour and management representatives, and a policy analyst with respect to what the province is doing about preventing MSDs.
• Interactive workshops where attendees discussed how manual materials handling issues affected their workplace.
• A lively panel discussion on key MSD issues.
