WHMIS Controlled Products Regulations (CPR) Amended

On February 23, 2010 the CPR was amended to clarify some of the WHMIS rules regarding information for classification and hazard disclosure on WHMIS-compliant MSDSs.

OSHA - GHS*

The United States published a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking to align OSHA's Hazard Communication Standard (HCS) with the GHS in the Federal Register on September 30, 2009. Comments and feedback have been received by OSHA through submissions and public hearings. For more information about OSHA and GHS, including a link to the Proposed Rule view the OSHA website.

US Mine Disaster kills 29*

In April 29 coal miners were killed in a West Virginia mine explosion. Methane gas was likely involved. The Mining Health and Safety Administration is overseeing the accident investigation and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health will review the accident investigation process and report.
