Mining

The institute promotes the adoption and application of appropriate prevention and control measures, regulations, standards, work practices and techniques for the safe use of chrysotile.



The International Society of Mine Safety Professionals was founded to promote the development of health and safety professionals throughout the international mining community.



The mission of the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) is to administer the provisions of the Federal Mine Safety and Health Act of 1977 (Mine Act) and to enforce compliance with mandatory safety and health standards as a means to eliminate fatal accidents; to reduce the frequency and severity of nonfatal accidents; to minimize health hazards; and to promote improved safety and health conditions in the Nation's mines.



MASHA is a designated "Safe Workplace Association" in Ontario. Members include all of Ontario's underground and surface mines; gravel and sand pits and quarries; diamond drilling, exploration and mine contracting companies; oil and gas exploration, development and production firms.

The Yukon Mine Training Association (YMTA) is a partnership between the Yukon's mining industry and First Nations. The YMTA ensures that safety training is developed and delivered, meeting industry standards.
